“What do I want to move closer to?”
POSITIVE AFFIRMATION
"Today I will enjoy the journey I’m on, towards my destination."
A fun musing from last year, that’s the question posed by famous YouTube yoga instructor, Adriene, boasting over 11M followers and, “recognized by Google as the most searched workout of 2015.”
“What do you want to move closer to?”
The power of this question is its playfulness and timelessness. The answer changes every day, adjusting to our mood and current situation.
For example, today, I’m choosing to move closer to staying present and not feeling rushed. As a productive person, I also suffer from symptoms including the urge to just get things done, to tick that checkbox complete. But we’re supposed to enjoy the moment, to live in the here and now!
I suspect utopia is reached whenever we feel that perfect balance, aka deep work.
So, back to the bigger question - what do you want to move closer to? Maybe it’s to a person, to a specific new year’s goal, or even to an emotion. There’s no wrong answer, only your answer.
To quote another yoga instructor, Jonah Kest, “yoga isn’t trying to fix you, because there’s nothing wrong with you.” Maybe it’s that mindset that allows him to do this:
